The title refers to a being or something with a real existence – a musical entity that exists by its own laws and purpose. The original work for solo violin is written for and dedicated to Christine Pryn. Apart from solo viola and solo violin, there is also a version for solo cello, and all three versions can be performed with or without electronics.

The piece consists of two parts:

1. The first part begins with a three – tone theme in double stops, functioning as a passacaglia. This theme gradually layers upon itself as a polyphonic canon, building toward a culmination.
2. The second part is characterized by a rhythmic ostinato across the strings, reminiscent of Baroque music, which slowly distorts through glissandos and ends with a long glide into the high register.

The electronic component is relatively simple, consisting of four delays (1.3, 2.1, 3.4, and 5.5 seconds) distributed across the speakers.

Titlen betyder væsen – noget der har eksistens eller realitet. Her tænkes der på et musikalsk væsen, der lever i sig selv efter egne love og mål. Det originale værk for soloviolin er skrevet til Christine Pryn. Udover soloviolin og solobratch, er der også en udgave for solocello, og alle tre versioner kan opføres med eller uden elektronik.

Værket er i to dele:

1. Første del starter med et tema på tre toner i dobbeltgreb, som fungerer som en passacaglia. Temaet lægger sig gradvist oven på sig selv i flere lag som en flerstemmig kanon, mens musikken vokser mod en kulmination.
2. Anden del er præget af et rytmisk ostinat hen over strengene, som en art barokmusik der langsomt forvitres af glissandoer og slutter med langsomt at glide op i det øverste register.

Den elektroniske del består af fire delays, der forsinker musikken med henholdsvis 1.3, 2.1, 3.4 og 5.5 sekunder, panoreret i højtalerne.

Electronics and Surround Setup

The electronic part consists of four mono-delays.
The instrument should be amplified to be mixed with the 4 delays. It is important that the dynamics of each delay are equal, or only slightly below the dynamics of the instrument including its amplification. This often means that the delays should be as loud as possible without feedback.
