Program Note
In English
Entity (2002)
cello solo
The title refers to a being or something with a real existence – a musical entity that exists by its own laws and purpose. The original work for solo violin is written for and dedicated to Christine Pryn. Apart from solo cello and solo violin, there is also a version for solo viola, and all three versions can be performed with or without electronics.
The piece consists of two parts:
The electronic component is relatively simple, consisting of four delays (1.3, 2.1, 3.4, and 5.5 seconds) distributed across the speakers.

In Danish
Entity (2002)
bratchsolo
Værket er i to dele:
Den elektroniske del består af fire delays, der forsinker musikken med henholdsvis 1.3, 2.1, 3.4 og 5.5 sekunder, panoreret i højtalerne.
Martin Lohse 2002
Electronics and Surround Setup
The electronic part consists of four mono-delays.
The instrument should be amplified to be mixed with the 4 delays. It is important that the dynamics of each delay are equal, or only slightly below the dynamics of the instrument including its amplification. This often means that the delays should be as loud as possible without feedback.
Delays in four speakers:
| Delay | Delay time | Front left | Front right | Back right | Back left |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Original sound | 0 ms | 50% | 50% | – | – |
| Delay 1 | 1300 ms | – | 70% | 30% | – |
| Delay 2 | 2100 ms | – | – | 90% | 10% |
| Delay 3 | 3400 ms | – | – | 10% | 90% |
| Delay 4 | 5500 ms | 70% | – | – | 30% |
Delays in two (stereo) speakers:
| Delay | Delay time | Front left | Front right |
|---|---|---|---|
| Original sound | 0 ms | 50% | 50% |
| Delay 1 | 1300 ms | 100% | – |
| Delay 2 | 2100 ms | 67% | 33% |
| Delay 3 | 3400 ms | 33% | 67% |
| Delay 4 | 5500 ms | – | 100% |

Please note: This is not a complete list. It includes live performances and radio broadcasts across all versions of the work. While the archive is highly comprehensive for earlier years, recent entries show only a fraction of the 500-1.000 annual performances across the composer's complete catalog, reflecting only those events reported to and logged by the composer.
