Program Note

Transition is slow, expressive music that gradually develops into increasingly long phrases. The work is mournful and multifaceted, featuring numerous musical layers operating in different tempos.

The title is both concrete—referring to the slow evolution of these layers—and figurative, representing a movement from one state of mind to another, or perhaps even a passage toward what follows.
