Istid (1997)
Clarinet, violin, cello and piano

Istid (Ice Age) evokes the era when a vast white mantle of ice covered Northern Europe, carving the hills and valleys of the modern landscape. The work begins with the clarinet, violin, and cello playing in a shared register, creating a texture that slowly opens and closes beneath the piano’s “ice crystals.” The music then moves into a freer, more breathing middle section before concluding with quiet, crystalline harmonics.

Istid (1997)
