Haiku (1999)
Clarinet, violin, cello and piano
Haiku is inspired by the poems of the Japanese master Basho. The work consists of 12 musical moods or moments, ranging from 20 seconds to four minutes in duration. The performers determine the number and succession of the pieces, allowing a unique musical form to emerge in each performance.
The specific numbering of the 12 pieces refers to the verse numbers in Hans-Jørgen Nielsen’s introduction to Haiku. A sequence often used in concerts is: 2, 3, 12, 10, 39, 8, 4, 23, 21, 17 and 26.

Haiku (1999)
