Work by Lohse: In liquid... (accordion concerto, second version)
Cd: Accordion Concertos (SACD). Bjarke Mogensen, accordion and Danish National Chamber Orchestra conducted by Rolf Gupta. Dacapo: 6.220592

Men takket være bl.a.

It's not so many years ago that the accordion was not particularly socially acceptable in the classical music world. But thanks to such musician as Bjarke Mogensen, recently debuted as a soloist, the instrument is now accepted in those circles.

This new release presents four Danish composers' vision of how the interplay between orchestra (here Danish National Chamber Orchestra) and accordion works so effectively.

Ole Schmidt was the first on the track with his rhythmic, often humorous tone (1958). Humor, but also some creepy atmosphere, also is a characteristic of Anders Koppel's "Concerto Piccolo" (2009), written for Bjarke Mogensen.

Per Nørgård "Recall" from 1968 is Wonderfully accessible, with folkoloristisk rhythms and 60s sound.
Martin Lohses light minimalist style (2008) match the accordions many possibilities and especially Bjarke Mogensen talented play brilliantly.
